Art Masters Program
In the Art Masters Program, brought to HCE by the PTO, our students are transported through history learning about the life and art of FIVE famous artists throughout the course of the school year!
Each session begins with a multi-media assembly using engaging visual slides, artist voices, and music where the children learn about the fascinating lives and famous works of the featured artist. Interactive questions and multi-media content will captivate the students while walking through a virtual museum filled with interesting stories and facts.
Over the course of the next 2 weeks after our assembly, parent volunteers visit the classrooms to lead a hands-on workshop - with students creating their own masterpiece inspired by the featured artist! The classroom transforms into an art studio as our volunteers lead the students on a step-by-step journey through the art project. Concentrating on the same medium, style or subject matter as the featured artist, the students will discover their creativity while developing confidence in their own unique abilities!
The sessions are varied by grade-level, to ensure that each classroom experience is tailored for the students.
Did you know that over the course of your child's time at HCE, they will learn about 30 different artists through the Art Master's program? During their sessions they'll have access to artist quality materials (like chalk pastels) that otherwise wouldn't be available - and learn artistic terms and techniques that will broaden their appreciation and understanding of the arts!
This is one of the PTO's favorite programs - and we're proud to be able to both fund and provide the volunteers to make it happen!

2024-2025 SCHEDULE OF ARTISTS
- Hardin: September 11
- Rembrandt: November 20
- Calder: January 29
- Gauguin: March 26
- Da Vinci: April 23

The November program featured the works of Rembrandt!
Our lower grades experimented with shadows and light with their monochrome Windmill, while upper grades dove deeper into how textures play into creating depth, making their vases "pop" in the light.
Volunteer with Art Masters!
There are two great ways to get involved with this program - depending on your level of availability!
1) Attend the Art Lecture and Parent Training Session to be a classroom "lead". These training sessions are 2 hours each, and take place while the student assembly is going on (see schedule above). It is not required to be able to attend every session to be a lead!
2) Be an in-class volunteer to support the "lead" on your class's workshop day. For this opportunity, we'll keep you in the loop for when your student's class is doing their workshop (these last about 90 minutes each) - we love extra parent support to aid the students in the project!
Art skills are NOT required - you'll learn the art lesson step-by-step and it's simple and fun! Our volunteers often tell us they learned quite a bit too!
